Torrents don't download

I tried using both the USA and Canadian VPN svc to download a TV show using Torrents but no joy. Using torrents in this case is just a way to get around all the sites that want you to give them your credit card info and promise that they won't charge you. Like I'm going to give some anonymous web my credit card info!!
Is there some sort of technical issue regarding torrents and VPN?
Pleased to hear from anyone who could shed some light on this matter.

I just answered my own question. Most free VPN's (including this one it seems), do not support torrents. Period.
Here is a site that lists some free VPN sites that support torrents and promotes an inexpensive one.
